Flying Alarm Clock
Posted by Gadget_Guy in Gadgets, Great Ideas, Unique Designs, Videos on March 8, 2011

My, how time flies…ugh. I can’t believe I just said that…
It’s not that we’ve gotten lazy as a species, far from it! We’re more productive now than we’ve ever been, but with more and more work to do, we have to create time by cutting down on late night raids on Molten Core, ordering fast-food, talking on the phone while driving… The only time we have left is spent sleeping. Now you have to stay up late and get up early in an effort to get more done.
Waking up after a pitiful five hours of sleep has its own challenges, though. At ThinkGeek, we’re always looking for new ways to haul your lazy butt out of bed. Normal alarm clocks wake you up with loud noises to jar you into wakefulness, however we’ve become accustomed to the snooze-bar… Now, it’s become muscular instinct to flail your hands roughly in the direction of the noise, and smack! Nine more minutes of blissful unconsciousness. No more.

Posted by Daoco in Gadgets, Great Ideas, Innovation on February 27, 2011

Rock in Your Pocket
- Pocket size guitar amp with real tube-amp sound
- Plugs directly into your guitar or bass
- AUX in jack lets you jam along to your mp3 player
Practicing those hot guitar licks can be a bit of an inconvenience when you need to lug around a big heavy guitar amp. But Korg has got you covered with the amPlug VOX Mini Guitar Amp. These tiny amps plug directly into your guitar to give you truly amazing sound… and that is no exaggeration. The Amplug amps sound just the full size VOX amps they are based on, but instead of waking up the neighborhood you plug in headphones for personal listening.
Even with its ultra-compact size, the amPlug perfectly reproduces the complex and warm distortion that is distinctive of a vacuum tube, as well as the powerful high gain produced by a large amp stack.

Pocket Radar Faster than a speeding bullet
Posted by Daoco in Gadgets, Great Ideas, Innovation on February 25, 2011

Faster than a speeding bullet? Now you’ll know!
- K-Band Handheld Doppler Speed Radar
- Measures from: 7 MPH to 375 MPH (11 KPH to 600 KPH)
- Easy to Use One-Button “Point and Shoot” Interface
We’re pretty sure you won’t run into Superman anytime soon. At least not the real Superman. (Don’t tell us he’s just a character in a comic book. We don’t believe you. Santa’s real, too.) You may bump into some imitation Supermen at your local comic-con, but we can assure you that they do not break speeds of 3 MPH. In fact, they’re often much slower, especially if the convention is crowded and/or there’s a Slave Leia nearby. But if you did bump into the real Superman, you could whip out your Pocket Radar and verify that his speed was indeed faster than a speeding bullet.

The Bladeless Fan – technology found in jet engines to generate a cooling air
Posted by Daoco in Gadgets, Great Ideas, Innovation, Inventions, Unique Designs on September 9, 2010

The Bladeless Fan.
Winner of Time magazine’s “Best Inventions” award, this is the fan that uses technology found in jet engines to generate a cooling air stream without any blades. A turbine inside the base draws in air and propels it up to the loop amplifier. Air is expelled through a 1-mm slot along the circumference of the loop amplifier and across a 16º airfoil-shaped ramp. Using the aerodynamic principles of inducement and entrainment, the fan draws air from behind and along its sides into the air stream, generating optimal air velocity. The bladeless fan produces a smooth, uninterrupted stream of air, unlike typical fan blades that “chop” air into uneven, intermittent breezes. A dial allows smooth, continuous adjustment of air velocity. The fan’s 5 1/2″-diameter base sets up unobtrusively on a desktop or table, it oscillates 90º, and tilts 10º up or down.

The Solar Powered Golf Cart
Posted by Daoco in Gadgets, Great Ideas, Innovation, Solar Power on August 16, 2010

The Solar Powered Golf Cart.
This is the electric golf cart that has an array of 72 photovoltaic cells built into the roof that collect solar energy, providing up to 33% more range between recharges than non-solar electric golf carts. The cart’s 160-watt array produces up to three amps per hour for its 48-volt rechargeable battery system, providing a range of up to 49 miles–approximately 10 rounds of golf–before requiring a full recharge (overnight via its 6′ long AC adapter; 15 hours via its solar array). The array also extends the life of the battery system by 60% more than other electric golf carts. Its 5 1/2-hp electric motor and 19-spline rear axle provides a maximum speed of 24 MPH and is powerful enough to enable the cart to climb a 28° incline when fully loaded with two passengers and golf bags, supporting up to 755 lbs. The cart uses rack and pinion steering, leaf springs, and heavy shock suspension to provide a smooth, even ride on its rugged 8″ pneumatic tires. A built-in speed controller allows you to limit the maximum speed, and its self-adjusting drum brakes provide reliable stopping. Includes a two-person seat with vinyl upholstery, four cup holders, and straps for securing two golf bags. The cart has headlights, turn indicators, brake lights, and a horn. 7 3/4′ L x 3 3/4′ W x 5 3/4′ H (1,100 lbs.)
