You begin by wearing the Zeo Headband each night. The headband uses our patent-pending SoftWave™ sensor technology to accurately and safely measure your unique sleep patterns through the electrical signals naturally produced by the brain. Step 2: Review Your Sleep Data on the Bedside Display
The Zeo Bedside Display puts last night’s sleep data at your fingertips and will store up to two weeks of data for easy viewing. When you wake up, it gives you a personal sleep score – your ZQ – and shows a graph of your Light, Deep and REM sleep over the course of the night. The bedside display will also present you with information about last night’s sleep and how it compares to previous nights. The optional SmartWake™ alarm feature will look for a “natural awakening point” based on your sleep patterns to decrease the grogginess associated with waking from Deep sleep. When SmartWake is selected, Zeo will find a time to wake you within a half-hour of your set time, never later. The result should be a slightly easier way to wake up.

The Airborne Laser Testbed – shoot down missile with laser

The Airborne Laser Testbed (ALTB) is being developed as an advanced platform for MDA’s directed energy research program. Using two solid state lasers and a megawatt-class Chemical Oxygen Iodine Laser housed aboard a modified Boeing 747-400 Freighter, the ALTB uses directed energy to demonstrate the potential of using directed energy as a viable technology against ballistic missiles.

Firing Sequence

  1. The Airborne Laser Testbed uses six infrared sensors to detect the exhaust plume of a boosting missile.
  2. Once a target is detected, a kilowatt-class solid state laser, the Track Illuminator, tracks the missile and determines a precise aim point.
  3. The Beacon Illuminator, a second kilowatt-class solid state laser, then measures disturbances in the atmosphere, which are corrected by the adaptive optics system to accurately point and focus the high energy laser at its intended target.
  4. Using a very large telescope located in the nose turret, the beam control/fire control system focuses the megawatt-class COIL beam onto a pressurized area of the boosting missile, holding it there until the concentrated energy compromises the structural integrity of the threat missile causing it to fail.

Development

  • The High Energy Laser is now integrated on the aircraft with laser subsystem activation. The program achieved return to flight in April 2009 when it kicked-off its High Power System Integration (HPSI) experiment program. This experiment series verified correct operation of target tracking and atmospheric compensation of the upgraded Beam Control system using the low power energy lasers.

It has a hydraulic pre-rotator, the strongest rotorhead on a gyroplane, disc brakes, and a very large stabilizer system that includes fixed vertical stabilzers followed by the steerable rudder, and a large horizontal stabilizer. The frame itself is made of steel.

Not long after the smoke from the Consumer Electronics Show cleared, thousands of gun lovers converged upon the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas for the Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show. It was loaded with techie stuff, too.

This year, the highest-tech gun belonged to Armatix. The German firm has an electronic safety that automatically disables the pistol when it’s not within a few inches of a custom wristwatch. The watch sends a wireless arming signal to the gun. If the gun is picking up a signal from the watch, a green LED on the back lights up. Try squeezing the handle without wearing the watch, and you will see a red warning light. Anyone can pick up a limited edition version of the pistol for about 7,000 euro, which is pretty steep for a .22cal plinker. They start shipping next month.

Casio’s Exilim EX-FS10S is a compact digital camera with a twist – it’s designed to help improve your golf swing. Using a special burst mode, the camera captures 1000 video frames in one second. While onboard software’s detect your club, the position of your elbows, arms and head, and once you swing your shot the camera compares your swing with an ideal swing plane on the monitor.

Niches are being created by digital camera makers keen to stand out from the crowd – Nikon’s COOLPIX S100pj with built-in projector and Sony’s PARTY SHOT being just two examples.

Casio’s offering is not only designed to help with your swing – the camera has a 9.1-megapixel sensor, 720p video recording at 30ps, a 3x optical zoom, and weight of 139g. It only has 32MB of onboard memory, but comes with the usual SDHC/ SD/ MMC plus/ MMC media slots for memory expansion.

The EX-FS10S is priced at JPY34,800 (approximately US$350) and is available currently in Japan only at Casio’s e-site.
