Extend HDMI at 1080p/60 Hz up to 10 meters (30 feet) away!
The Wireless for HDMI 60 GHz Extender extends high-quality uncompressed HDMI 1.3 audio/video at resolutions of up to 1080p/60 Hz to any remote display location up to 30 feet away without the hassle of wires. The Wireless for HDMI 60 GHz Extender employs advanced high-frequency radio technology to support the high multi-gigabit data transfer rates of HDMI 1.3 with 8-channel digital audio.

This is a perfect solution in scenarios where traditional cabling cannot be applied. The plug-and-play installation makes it simpler than ever to extend HDMI to another room or to a ceiling projector in a matter of minutes, all without ever having to run cables and drill through walls or ceilings.
How It Works
The Wireless for HDMI 60 GHz Extender system uses a pair of Sender and Receiver units. The HDMI source is attached to the HDMI input on the Sender unit. The Receiver unit is attached to an HDMI-compliant display in the desired viewing area. The Sender and Receiver are arranged in a line-of-sight orientation with respect to each other and without obstructions in the way of the radio signal path. The Sender and Receiver are powered on and put into pairing mode using their dedicated reset buttons. Within a few seconds, the units find each other and wireless radio pairing mode commences. A sharp and vibrant high-definition picture emerges on the remote extended HDMI-compliant display as AV signal extension completes.

During setup and operation, 4 LED Indicators on the front of the Sender and Receiver units will illuminate to indicate operational states such as power status, pairing activity, strength of the wireless signal, and signal blockage.

Inflatable balloon based device limits deaths due to profuse bleeding

Inflatable Device Stops the Bleeding

A fast, efficient balloon-based system could save lives on the street and battlefield.

Uncontrolled bleeding is a major cause of death on the battlefield, and according to military medical experts, it accounts for 80 percent of otherwise preventable deaths. One problem is that there are no effective treatments for deep, penetrating wounds, which are too severe for gauze packing and are in areas where a tourniquet cannot be applied. To stop life-threatening bleeding in such instances, Maynard Ramsey, the chief executive officer and chief technology officer at CardioCommand, a Tampa, FL-based medical device company, has developed a balloon-based system that can be inserted into a wound and inflated in less than 90 seconds.

Brain-cooling motorcycle helmet could save thousands of lives

high tech helmet

helmet

Inventor and motorcycling enthusiast Jullian Preston-Powers was inspired after a basketball injury.  The ThermaHelm acts like an instant ice pack after a sudden impact.  An extraordinary new ‘brain-cooling’ motorcycle helmet could save thousands of lives each year.  Called the ThermaHelm, the incredible piece of equipment comes with an inbuilt device that acts like an instant ice pack after a sudden impact.  By cooling the brain it is thought the carbon fibre helmet can reduce the risk of long-term brain damage and save lives.

The British creators will launch the £299 helmet in May this year.

Inventor and motorcycling enthusiast Jullian Preston-Powers said he has had an incredible response to the new design.

Mr Preston-Powers, 44, said: ‘We’ve had a great reaction. People think it’s a great idea and have said they can’t believe no-one has thought of this before.

Electric car batteries with 500-mile range on the way

battery 500 miles

The project is progressing with its goal of boosting the range of rechargeable batteries for all-electric cars to 500 miles.

The Battery 500 Project recently held its kickoff meeting at IBM’s Almaden Laboratory in San Jose, Calif., where leading scientists, engineers and other experts brainstormed about how to perfect the power source for all-electric automobiles. (See the video.)

As a part of IBM’s 2-year-old Big Green Innovations program, the Battery 500 Project aims to boost the range of rechargeable batteries for all-electric cars from less than 100 miles today to as far as 500 miles. The consortium’s efforts are being led by the Almaden Lab in collaboration with several U.S. universities and the Department of Energy’s national labs.

“Batteries technology has improved, but is still far inferior to gasoline in terms of how much energy they hold,” said Spike Narayan, a key IBM researcher. “The energy density—which is the amount of energy a lithium-ion battery stores per unit weight—is really not enough to produce a family-sized sedan with a 300- to 500-mile range.”

RCA Airnergy Charger Harvests Electricity From WiFi Signals – CES 2010

rca wifi charger

This thing is, seriously, the highlight of CES for me (so far) this year. 3D TVs and eBook readers are fine, but there’s nothing amazing about them.

The Airnergy Charger is amazing.

This little box has, inside it, some kind of circuitry that harvests WiFi energy out of the air and converts it into electricity. This has been done before, but the Airnergy is able to harvest electricity with a high enough efficiency to make it practically useful: on the CES floor, they were able to charge a BlackBerry from 30% to full in about 90 minutes, using nothing but ambient WiFi signals as a power source.

The Airnergy has a battery inside it, so you can just carry it around and as long as you’re near some WiFi, it charges itself. Unlike a solar charger, it works at night and you can keep it in your pocket. Of course, proximity to the WiFi source and the number of WiFi sources is important, but at the rate it charges, if you have a home wireless network you could probably just leave anywhere in your house overnight and it would be pretty close to full in the morning.
